August 2008 - boat surveys around the Copelands and outer Belfast Lough for Shearwater rafts have located many rafts. However these surveys also located many Porpoises and these records have been submitted to the Irish Whale and Dolphon Group. /p>
September 2008 - a very successful season tracking Manx Shearwaters usign Global Positioning Devices. In August 27 birds were successfully tracked and these provided over 4500 rafting data points around the Copeland Islands. The use of GPDs has been shown to be a valid way to study Manx Shearwater rafting behaviour. It is evident already that birds are rafting far further from the islands than previously thought.
